First Christian Church
(Disciples of Christ)
       of Berea
When I was a child, I was taught to look both ways before crossing the street.  That instruction has applied to many things in my life.  At First Christian Church in Berea, Kentucky, we try to look both ways. We have a clear understanding of our heritage: a community founded by a minister in 1853, committed to treating whites, African-Americans, women and men equally and fairly and to providing equal opportunities for everyone.  We're a long way from 1853, but the commitment to equality and fairness remains a part of our vision as we look the other way - into the future and chart the

course before us.  We also know that equality and fairness are fundamental to the Gospel and are important, not just to the past or in the future, but are a foundation for today.  In his teachings and through his actions Jesus Christ reminded us that we are all brothers and sisters, all children of God, all of us important in God's eyes.  We try to live that every day.  At First Christian Church, everyone is welcome.  There are no fences, no barriers here.  When you're in Berea, stop by. Come just as you are, however that may be. We'd love to see you!
